What's with the Mouse Apple? I think it's neat.
The Japanese adopted the solar Gregorian (Western) calendar about 150 years ago (as part of Meiji Era modernization efforts) so their New Year starts on January 1st unlike the Chinese who follow the lunar calendar.
New Year is a big deal in Japan, their most important holiday. A lot of office workers will have all of next week off, thus nine straight days of holiday bookended by the two weekends. Naturally schools are off during this period.
Wow, that's like $220 bucks. I could buy a small slice of a monitor stand for that!
